“That’s when I realized I hadn’t received a call from my parents or my wife. I thought they were busy taking calls and doing interviews. Around 7pm I called my wife and asked why my parents weren’t Answered my call. Her voice was “a little shaky. “I drew a blank. I didn’t know how to react or what questions to ask. I was crying but wanted to make sure no one was watching me cry. There was no need to think so, but it was instinctive. I couldn’t think. I was in the room I cried for a while.

“Then the team doctor checked me as I wasn’t answering the phone. Rahul Bhai and Rohit Bhai also came to check me and I could only tell them that I couldn’t think clearly, ” he added.

In a moment of shock for the man, Ashwin said he was thinking about the team. “I was part of the starting line-up and the game was in the balance. If I left, the team would be down to 10 men against a strong England side who were on top at the time. If I left, they would be Would be a short bowler. So many things were running through my mind. Ashwin then revealed how Indian cricket team coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma helped him.

“I was looking for flights but couldn’t find them. Rajkot airport closed at 6 pm and there were no flights from there after 6 pm. I didn’t know what to do. Rohit and Rahul Bhai came to my room .In the room, Rohit asked me to stop thinking. He asked me to go find my family and he was trying to arrange a chartered flight for me.
