Jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was hospitalized in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, for about 14 hours on Tuesday with abdominal pain.

Sunil Kaushal, principal of Bandarani Durgavati Medical College, said Ansari was admitted to the hospital at around 3.45 am with “stomach pain, urination and excretion problems”.

Then his problem was solved. “Mukhtar Ansari was discharged from the medical college ICU ward around 5.45 pm on Tuesday and the jail administration took him back to the jail,” he said.

Earlier, his brother Afzal Ansari, Gazipur MP, rushed to the hospital claiming he was poisoned in jail.

An official statement issued by the Lucknow Prison Department this afternoon said, “As the health condition of inmate Mukhtar Ansari suddenly deteriorated and he fell in the toilet during the night, he was immediately treated by the jail doctor.

“After informing the district administration, a team of doctors was called and the prisoner was shifted to the medical college that night. The prisoner was sent to Banda Medical College under police protection for treatment.” Mukhtar Ansari, 60 Mukhtar Ansari, a five-time MLA from Mau Sadar constituency, has been in jail in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2005. He has more than 60 criminal cases pending against him. He has been sentenced in eight cases in different courts in UP since September 2022 and is lodged in Banda jail.

His name appeared on a list of 66 gangsters released by the Uttar Pradesh police last year. His family had earlier expressed fears that Mukhtar Ansari might be killed in a fake encounter.

Afzal Ansari claimed on Tuesday that “Mukhtar said he was fed poisonous substances in the food in prison. This has happened for the second time. About 40 days ago, He was also fed poison. Recently, on March 19 and March 22, he was fed again. “Due to this (poison), his condition was very bad. ” Afzal Ansari said that on March 21, during the virtual hearing of the case at the Barabanki court, Mukhtar’s lawyer filed an application with the court alleging that his client was injected in prison “Chronic poison”, causing his condition to worsen.

Mukhtar Ansari’s son Umar Ansari claimed that despite his name and that of his uncle Afzal Ansari being on the visitors’ list but he was not allowed to see his father.

Afzal Ansari told news agency PTI earlier in the day: “We received information from Mohammadabad police station in Gazipur informing us that Mukhtar is sick and is studying in Banda Medical College “His family members have been asked to come for help,” he said. He called the chief minister’s office before leaving for Banda but was unable to contact Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur. Yogi Adityanath).

He said the purpose of the call to the chief minister’s office was to request his brother to be admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow or any other major hospital if appropriate arrangements were not made by Banda Medical College.

“If the government doesn’t cover the cost of treatment, the cost falls on the family,” he said.
