MSP growth on rabi crops shows government’s commitment: farmers

New Delhi, October 1 (IANS) Farmers have welcomed the decision of PM Narendra Modi-Left Central Government to increase the minimum support price (MSP) on various Rabi crops, stating that the increase in crop prices increases their income, while many of them called it a Navratri gift.

Jasvir Singh, a farmer from Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, told IANS that any increase in MSP is undoubtedly a profitable step for farmers.

He said, “The government has increased the prices of crops this year; they did it last year, and I believe that the government should do the same in the coming years.”

A better price will always bring happiness to a farmer’s family, he said.

Anurag Pawar coming from the same district thanked the government for the increase in prices on Rabi crops including wheat, mustard and others.

He said, “The Modi government has been continuously increasing prices on kharif and rabi crops since the Modi government came to power. Last year, the government had increased the MSP to Rs 85 on wheat; this year, it is Rs 150,” he said.

The farmers of Guna districts in Madhya Pradesh also faced the government’s decision and said that this showed the government’s commitment to the farmers.

The Modi government’s decision on the NSP is completely in favor of the farmers, Bhavani Shankar Sharma said.

Sharma said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done a lot of work for the farmers, and he continues to do so. The farmers are already getting the benefits of the PM Kisan Yojana and the PM Fasal Bima Yojana,” Sharma said.

Narmada Shankar Bhargava said that there may not be a better decision in favor of farmers, where the price for their crops increases every year.

Bhargava said, “I appreciate the Modi government’s efforts to achieve the goal of doubling the farmers’ income.”

Meanwhile, the farmers of Basti district in Uttar Pradesh inspired the Modi government’s decision to the farmers.

Mangla Prasad Maurya said that the increase in MSP motivates farmers to attract more seriously and increase production.

Ramamurth Chaudhary said that the government’s move is commendable, but farmers should also have the right to decide the prices.

Another farmer, Umesh Yadav welcomed the move, but said that the farmers will not be completely satisfied until the growth is based on the actual cost.
