Katni, October 16 (IANS) A Dalit youth has claimed that the village head and his associates allegedly beat him up for protesting against illegal mining in Katni, Madhya Pradesh. Police gave this information on Thursday.
The youth, identified as Rajkumar Chaudhary, a resident of Bahuriband in Katni district, alleged that village head Ramanuj Pandey beat him brutally and his nephew allegedly urinated on him.
Chaudhary also alleged that when his mother tried to intervene in the matter, Pandey and his associates involved in illegal mining beat her and abused her.
The incident happened a few days ago and came to light on Thursday when Choudhary lodged a written complaint against the village head and his associates to Karni Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Santosh Dehariya.
After submitting his complaint to ASP Dehariya, Chaudhary, speaking to IANS, claimed that when he tried to stop them, village head Ramanuj Pandey and his associates, involved in illegal mining, beat him up.
The victim claimed that he ran away after the attack and was admitted to Katni hospital.
He remained there for three days with serious injuries, including severe head and body pain.
Choudhary said, “They humiliated me with caste abuses and one of the sarpanch’s men even urinated on me. I wanted to die after this incident, but I decided to report the incident to senior police officials.”
He also said that the police have registered their complaint and have directed the local police station to take action against the accused persons.
Speaking to media persons, ASP Dehariya said that the police have received the complaint and the local police have been instructed to investigate the matter.
