Bhopal, Nov 9 (IANS) In a tragic road accident that has shocked the defense community, two Indian Navy personnel died after their motorcycle was hit by an unknown vehicle in Paravaliya area of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
The victims, Vishnu Arya and Anand Krishnan, both originally from Kerala and temporarily staying in Paravaliya, were heading to the boat club for routine practice on Sunday morning when the fatal collision occurred.
According to police officials, the incident took place around dawn when the two were riding a motorcycle together.
Eyewitnesses and forensic clues suggest that a speeding unknown vehicle – which has not yet been identified – hit their bike with such force that both men were fatally injured.
Two helmets were recovered from the scene, suggesting he was wearing protective gear, but the collision proved too severe for survival.
Police officials said his motorcycle was found in a crushed state, indicating that he was crushed by a heavy vehicle.
Both victims were taken to the hospital but did not survive.
Both were soldiers in the Navy and lived in Raksha Vihar Colony.
The accident happened near the colony.
Police officials said that Vishnu died during treatment on Sunday morning.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and police have launched a search operation to identify the vehicle involved.
CCTV footage of nearby establishments and Defense Bihar Colony is being reviewed, and posts across the district have been alerted.
Officers are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in tracking the vehicle.
The incident follows a disturbing pattern of hit-and-run cases in the area.
During the last month, a police driver attached to the additional director general of the intelligence unit died in a similar accident in Paravaliya, emphasizing the need for strict traffic enforcement and monitoring in the area.
The Navy has been informed and arrangements are being made to send the bodies back to Kerala.
Senior officers expressed grief over the death of two promising soldiers and assured full cooperation in the investigation.
