MP: Tribal man stripped, beaten, hung upside down, second such incident to be reported this week

A horrific incident of an alleged attack on a tribal man has been reported in Bettur in Madhya Pradesh, the second such incident to come to light in the district this week. The victim, who reportedly ran a tea shop, was stripped naked, beaten and hung upside down from the roof.

The accused allegedly tried to extort money from the tribal man while he was working at the shop he ran with his father, New Delhi TV reported. The victim told police the attacker kept asking him to “cut the money” while beating him.

The incident is said to have occurred in November last year, but the victim did not report the incident until this week out of fear that the defendant had a “criminal background”.

Video of the incident, which went viral on social media, shows the victim being hung upside down from a roof and beaten mercilessly with sticks and belts.

“They stripped me naked, tied me up, and beat me with sticks, belts and slippers. I don’t know why I was beaten, but they demanded money from the teahouse I ran with my father,” the victim told the publication .

In another such incident reported this week, a tribal man was attacked and forced to pose like Betul’s ‘murga’. The accused, identified as Chanchal Rajput, allegedly a member of the Bajrang Dal, used caste discrimination against the victim.

Congress president Jitu Patwari condemned the incident and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and handover of domestic affairs currently in the hands of the Chief Minister to a Congress that can take decisive control criminal.

In a separate incident, a tribal youth was allegedly beaten up by a group of people over a feud on February 7, police said in a release.
