Bhopal, Nov 10 (IANS) As celebrations mark Bhai Dooj, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav had announced the continuation of the Mukhyamantri Laadli Behna Yojana, under which Rs 1,500 to Rs 1.26 crore will be collected; The amount will now be paid through single-click transfer in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh from November 12.
The cabinet meeting on Monday approved the required amount for the current month’s installments, taking the total disbursement since March 2023 to Rs 44,000 crore.
“The total financial pressure on the state exchequer this year will be Rs 20,450 crore,” MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) Minister Chaitanya Kashyap said after the cabinet meeting.
She described the scheme as a “revolutionary step” for women’s financial independence. He said, “From now on, every month Rs 1500 will reach our sisters’ accounts without any deduction. This is their right, not charity.”
The scheme covers women aged 21-60 years from economically weaker sections including widows, divorcees and destitutes. “The chief minister will personally oversee the transfer at the event to be held on November 12 in Seoni,” he said.
Bank correspondents and common service centers have been directed to assist women without smartphones. Since its inception, the scheme has transformed lives. Women in rural areas are using the grants for children’s education and health care.
A government survey shows that 68 per cent of beneficiaries have opened savings accounts for the first time. Cabinet reviewed the inclusion criteria. Aadhaar-eKYC verification has been made mandatory to eliminate fake entries.
Urban beneficiaries will receive SMS alert 24 hours before credit. The state has tied up with India Post Payments Bank for doorstep delivery in remote areas. “No woman should visit the office for her money,” the CM directed.
The scheme has also boosted local economies. Grocery stores report higher sales on transfer dates. Opposition parties have demanded to increase it to Rs 3,000, but the government has cited fiscal discipline.
“We are committed to giving Rs 1,500 every month without any fail,” Dr Yadav had earlier said. The scheme is funded through state resources and savings from DBT rationalization. Laadli Brahmin Yojana has become a topic of discussion at the national level. Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have also started similar schemes.
