Bhopal, November 3 (IANS) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav-led Madhya Pradesh government on Monday launched ‘Samadhaan Yojana’ in Bhopal to provide exemption in surcharge to consumers whose electricity bills are outstanding for more than three months.
Addressing the gathering during the launch of ‘Samdhaan Yojana’, Chief Minister Yadav said that this scheme opens a window of relief for those consumers who are not able to pay their electricity bills on time due to various reasons.
The Chief Minister said, “This scheme will not only provide relief to electricity consumers but will also strengthen the overall electricity distribution system of the state. This initiative will increase both public confidence and transparency in governance.”
Chief Minister Shri Yadav said that this scheme is based on the principle of “pay quickly, make lump sum payment and get maximum benefits”.
He also informed that consumers of various categories, including industrial sector, who have pending bills for three months, will be eligible for surcharge waiver up to 100 per cent.
The scheme will be implemented in two phases.
The first phase of the scheme will run from November 3 to December 31, 2025, during which 60 to 100 percent surcharge waiver will be provided.
Similarly, in the second and final phase, this scheme will be effective from January 1 to February 28, 2026, in which 50 to 90 percent rebate will be given on surcharge.
The Chief Minister also shared that under the Samadhan Yojana 2025-26, the state government is waiving off surcharge of over Rs 3,000 crore on electricity bills of about nine million consumers.
Later, the state government said in a statement that domestic and agricultural consumers can enroll in the scheme and avail the benefits by depositing 10 per cent of the total outstanding amount.
In contrast, non-domestic and industrial consumers will have to deposit 25 per cent of the total outstanding amount to register for the scheme.
For registration, consumers will have to go to the distribution centre/sub-divisional office, where they will determine the amount of concession and installments.
After registration, the remaining outstanding amount can be paid in full or in installments using payment methods accepted by the electricity distribution companies.
