Betul, 20 September (IANS) Char Write and three other people were seriously injured in an accident near Tempni Khurd village on the highway in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh late Friday evening.
A group of seven spiritual pilgrims from Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh was returning from a visit to the revered Balajipuram temple in Betul when a group of seven spiritual pilgrims were disaster.
His Bolero vehicle suddenly faced a rear tire burst, causing it to get out of the road and drowned in a deep roadside well.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of nervousness and urgency as the villagers reached the site before the emergency services arrived.
With ropes and sheer determination, the villagers succeeded in protecting the three from the waterlogged vehicle.
The remaining four seer were stuck inside the submerged Bolero car, indicating a full -scale rescue operation by the police and SDRF teams which continued till late night.
The deceased was identified as Kallu alias Lakshmi Giri (24), Malkhan Giri (65), Rakesh Giri (35), and Gulab Giri (40).
His bodies were recovered after hours of intensive search efforts.
The remaining – Makhanju Giri (27), Shivpujan Giri (60), and driver, Rakesh Giri (32) – were rushed to Chhindwara District Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.
Deputy Police Superintendent, RP Choubey confirmed that the tire burst was the cause of the accident and appreciated the villagers for their sharp reaction.
He said that police and SDRF teams immediately worked to fix the victims and provide medical help to the injured.
The incident has given a decline of grief over the local community and has raised serious concerns about road safety with the Betul highway.
The presence of deep, unsafe wells on the roadside has long been a threat, and the residents are now seeking immediate action from the authorities to prevent future tragedies.
A similar accident occurred near Mandsaur Town a few days ago and claimed 12 lives when a car drowned in a well.
The Betul accident has ruled the call for better infrastructure, including protective obstacles and clear signage, especially on pilgrimage routes by devotees who watch continuous travel by devotees.
