Katni, October 27 (IANS) Four people, including the village sarpanch, have been arrested in connection with the assault on a Dalit youth in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. Police gave this information on Monday.
The accused were arrested from a highway on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. All four accused were absconding after the incident that took place on October 13.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Santosh Dehariya said, “Information was received about the presence of four accused in connection with the case and they were caught on a highway and arrested late on Sunday night. After interrogation, they will be produced in court today.”
During interrogation, the arrested people told the police that this incident happened due to an old dispute in the village.
A police officer said, “The accused persons have denied the allegation of forcing the victim to drink urine. However, our investigation is still ongoing.”
The incident took place on October 13 in Matwara village under Bahoriband police station, about 45 km from the district headquarters.
Victim Rajkumar Chaudhary had alleged in the complaint that four people, including village sarpanch Ramanuj Pandey and his family members, beat him up, abused him and forced him to drink urine.
The victim alleges that he was attacked for protesting against the illegal gravel mining taking place on government land near his farm.
They claim that the mining was being done under the direction of village sarpanch Ramanuj Pandey and his associates.
After the attack, Choudhary went to the government hospital for treatment and later lodged a complaint with the Katni Superintendent of Police.
