Raisen/Sagar, November 16 (IANS) At least 25 people were injured in a road accident, including seven in critical condition, when a speeding car collided with a crowded tractor-trolley on the Sultanpur-Begumganj road near an LPG agency in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district on Saturday evening.
According to police sources, around 40 villagers, mostly from nearby areas, were returning home in a tractor-trolley after visiting a famous “miracle well” at Noniya village near Banda town.
This well, which is believed to have healing properties, attracts devotees seeking healing from ailments, especially during auspicious periods.
The collision happened suddenly around 7.30 pm when the speeding car rammed into the rear of the trolley.
The collision was so strong that many passengers jumped out of the vehicle and scattered on the road.
Police officials said witnesses described chaotic scenes as injured people writhed in pain amid the shattered debris.
Quick-thinking passersby and local residents reached the spot, and assisted the police in arranging immediate transportation of the injured to nearby hospitals.
A critically injured man, identified as Gendalal Ahirwar, was referred to Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar for advanced treatment due to life-threatening injuries.
The shocking thing is that three people in the car fled immediately after the accident, leaving the vehicle, which went off the road and crashed into a nearby field.
Police have seized the damaged car and started searching for the absconding driver.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code for negligent driving and causing hurt.
The incident highlights the persistent dangers of overloading tractor-trolleys for passenger transportation, a common but illegal practice in rural Madhya Pradesh.
Several people have lost their lives in similar accidents involving pilgrimages or community visits in the state recently, giving rise to demands for strict enforcement of traffic norms.
A journey to a miraculous well meant to bring hope ended in tragedy for these villagers.
