Another trekker, Eric Wayne, who survived the icy storm, said he faced constant snowfall and decided to return from his fifth and final camp on Saturday night.

“It was raining and snowfall every day, and we did not see Everest at all,” Mr. Wayne said.

“We had only a few tents. More than 10 of us were in big tent and hardly slept. It was very hard to snow.”

Mr. Wayne said that his group had to clean the snow every 10 minutes. “Otherwise our tents must have collapsed,” he said.
