Mother donated kidney, saved her son’s life in Kupwara

In a moving example of a mother without an eminent love, a 40-year-old woman from a cedar-lalb in North Kashmir donated her kidney to her 23-year-old son, giving him a new lease on life after years of the victim.

Tasaduk Hussain Khan, resident of Kakadpari, Dewar-Lolb, had been suffering from kidney disease for the last four years. According to a family member, he was born with a single kidney, which failed at the age of 19.

The doctors there confirmed that his only kidney had failed and a transplant was the only option. However, the Khan family comes from an economically weak background and could not arrange a donor from outside. The doctors advised him to investigate a compatible donor within the family.

This is when Tasaduk’s mother, Zitoon Begum stepped forward. Without another idea, he offered to donate his kidney to save his son.

In 2022, all family members were tested. Fortunately, Zitoon was found to have an ideal match. Transplant surgery was successfully held in Schims Sora.

As the news of transplantation spread on social media, people of Kashmir praised the mother’s sacrifice. Many people called it the ultimate expression of love.

“Only one mother can do this. A living example of heaven under her feet,” a user wrote on X (East Twitter).

Another user posted, “She gave her life twice. From first birth, and now with her kidney.”

Another user commented, “Zitoon Begum has shown us all what true courage and love looks. Salute to this brave mother.”

The story has not only given relief, but has also given happiness to the entire Kupwara, where neighbors and relatives have gone to meet the family and wish them a quick recovery and wish Tasaduk a quick recovery.

According to the report, both mother and son are stable and are well being cured. A doctor involved in surgery told Rising Kashmir, “It is always inspiring to see such determination and love in difficult situations.”

As the family is now ready for a healthy future, the selfless work of the zitoon has become a bright example of maternal love that transferred an entire community and inspired many people in the valley.
