Jurors saw body camera footage of paramedics trying to save the boy at the home, who Robinson said was injured while taking a shower at the home.

De Veranier’s heart stopped beating and he was taken to hospital but could not be saved.

On Wednesday, Robinson told the court she was giving her son a bath in the shower when the water suddenly became hot and she was accidentally scalded.

She said she didn’t realize he had been burned by the water because he usually cries when he takes a shower.

Robinson did not seek medical attention for the burns, which she said she treated herself over the next few days even as she realized the severity of his injuries.

She told jurors: “I was already mortified when it happened and I didn’t mean to do this to him.

“As things get worse and worse, it looks really bad. I know it’s going to look bad.”

The trial continues.
