Ottawa – Statistics Canada has announced that it will end several term and casual employment contracts by October as it faces budget cuts.
A note sent to employees on Monday by Chief Statistics Andre Lorangar confirmed that the agency was ending several specified-term posts including terms, casuals and part-time workers by 8 October.
A spokesperson of the StateCan says that 142 persons will be affected by measurement and that exceptions will be created where it is necessary to avoid the “important” effect on the distribution of a program or service like the upcoming census.
In his own note of the employees, Lorangar says that the recent expenditure reviews announced by the government are being cut in response to the response, which works to most departments and agencies with a savings of up to 15 percent in the next three years.
Lorangar says that when the agency is not yet in a position to provide accurate figures, the target assigned to the organization presents a “important challenge”.
Canadian data data say that in 2024, 7,220 employees were working in Statistics Canada, including 1,088 terms, 75 students and 66 casual workers.
Lorangar says the agency is committed to maintaining a reliable student attendance.
