More than Rs 5 crore drugs seized at Lucknow Airport, two arrested

New Delhi, September 19 (IANS) in a major drug bust, Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport arrested two Mumbai men with drugs worth Rs 2 crore in Mumbai.

The arrest was made on Thursday, said that the Customs Department said in a press release issued by the office of Deputy/Assistant Commissioner, Air Customs at the airport.

The operation was conducted after obtaining specific intelligence inputs and conducting further analysis. Two passengers arrived at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow on flight number FD146 from Bangkok on 17 September.

Passengers were intercepted and sent to the green channel for X-ray examination of their individual goods and goods by Customs officials stationed at the bus stand.

Subsequently, on checking the black goods being done by the passengers, there was a suspicion of having an eight green polyethylene packet, ganja/marijuana (hydroponic seeds) with NDP substance, with a net weight of 4.917 kg.

When the green substance was tested, this prima facial ganja/marijuana (hydroponic seeds) appeared.

Customs authorities have registered a case of smuggling of NDP substances packed in eight packets, which are suspected to be ganja/marijuana (hydroponic seeds). These eight packets were vacuum-pack plastic bags with NDP substances. The value of the substance is around 4.917 crores.

“In view of the above, it is clear that passengers have violated the provisions of Section 8 of the NDPS Act, 1985 and have committed crimes under Section 20 and 23 of the NDPS Act, 1985,” the press statement said.

Accordingly, passengers were arrested under Section 43 of the NDPS Act, 1985, the officials said. Suspected green substance of ganja/marijuana (hydroponic seed) was seized with packaging materials under Section 43 of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Officials said that further investigation in the case is going on.

Earlier in the month, Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai, arrested three persons, including a Nigerian, after solving a major cocaine syndicate at the airport. At the time of arrest, the accused were carrying 5.618 kg cocaine worth at least Rs 60 crore, which was seized by the authorities.
