Officials said that Deoghar (Jharkhand), 22 (IANS) looted in a sensational day light at Madhupur in Deoghar district of Jharkhand, armed robbers looted lakhs of rupees from HDFC Bank branch on Rajbari Road with large quantities of jewelery.
According to the police, preliminary estimates suggest that the total value of the loot may exceed Rs 1 crore.
The incident took place on Monday between 12.45 pm and 1 pm, which sent shockwaves through Madhupur Bazaar.
According to eyewitnesses, two people and burqas wearing helmets first entered the bank premises. After moments, they joined by four more individuals.
Armed with pistols, robbers forced employees and customers to surrender their belongings, snatching anyone from the police to prevent the police from warning.
Many witnesses said that the gang did not hesitate to use the force. The bank employees and customers were opposed, creating an atmosphere of terror inside the branch.
In the next 20 minutes, the robbers filled the bags from the counters and with the customers present with cash, gold coins and valuables. He also managed to open a locker allegedly and ran away with jewelry worth several lakh rupees.
Before escaping, the gang closed the bank’s main shutter from outside. By the time the passers -by realized that something was wrong, the criminals had already disappeared.
Soon after receiving the information, the police reached the spot. Officials of Madhupur Police Station, along with the in -charge of the SDPO and Inspector, started the initial investigation.
Later, Superintendent of Police Kumar Saurabh arrived and formed a special investigation team to track the culprits. CCTV footage is being closely examined from the bank and surrounding areas.
While the bank and the police have not yet officially confirmed the accurate figure, the initial assessment indicates that the loot may cross the Rs 1 crore. The police dropped out of the area and raided the possible hideout.
He said that criminals will be arrested soon.
