More than 70 firefighters to deal with Blaze at London Block of Flats

More than 70 firefighters are struggling with a blast in a block of flats in South London on Friday afternoon.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) stated that there was a flat “completely ultra” on the 11th floor of the 17-storey building on Hillingdon Street in Walworth.

Before the arrival of the firefighters, a woman left the property, the brigade said.

A spokesperson of the service said that he received 45 calls around 2PM, and 10 fire engines from D.Ot, Dochet, Soho, Whitchapel and nearby fire stations were sent to the spot.

LFB said the fire was under control within an hour.

The brigade is investigating the cause of the fire.

Station Commander Tony Peruks, which was on the spot, said: “It was a very visible fire, and as a result the region became rapidly busy.

“People are advised to continue to avoid the area at this time, while the crew reduces the remaining hot places.”
