Bhopal, Nov 19 (IANS) Panic struck a restaurant in Bhopal’s Misrod area when more than 20 masked men barged inside and vandalized furniture and decorations, sending stunned customers running to safety. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.
Police officials said the incident occurred late on Tuesday night and lasted only two minutes.
According to police, the group entered the restaurant around midnight and started overturning tables, breaking chairs and destroying decorative items.
The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV camera installed inside the restaurant.
A video clip circulated on social media showed miscreants entering a large group and kicking and throwing furniture. They were wearing masks.
The video shows that some customers present at the time can be seen hastily walking out as the attackers wreaked havoc.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the group did not attack staff or patrons or bystanders.
Restaurant owner Sakcham Giri lodged a complaint at Misrod police station, after which officials reached the spot and examined the CCTV footage.
Police suspect that the attack may be related to an old dispute, although the exact motive is still unclear. He said that the matter is being investigated.
DCP Vivek Singh said that an FIR has been registered and all the police stations in the city have been alerted.
“A massive search operation is being conducted to identify and arrest the accused,” he said.
Police said all aspects are being investigated. He said CCTV footage, suspicious activities, route mapping and possible disputes are also being looked into.
Police detained at least two suspects for questioning on Wednesday morning, sources said, but have not formally arrested anyone.
It is noteworthy that a similar incident took place in Jabalpur in September, where more than a dozen masked people vandalized a restaurant, causing panic among the customers.
