More than 170 arrested on attacks on KFC outlet in Pakistan

Arun Jain, 18/04/2025

Karachi:

Officials said the police have arrested the scores of the people in Pakistan in recent weeks, which extended to the United States’ Bhavna and Gaza in protest against the war of Israel, after over 10 crowd attacks at the outlet of American fast-food chain KFC.

Police among the major cities of the Islamic Nation, including the southern port city Karachi, Eastern city Lahore and the capital Islamabad, confirmed at least 11 incidents, attacking KFC outlets, attacking the protesters by protesters by lathi and barbarity armed protesters. Officials said at least 178 people were arrested.

KFC and its parents Yama brand, both US-based, did not respond to the requests of the comment.

A police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that a KFC employee was shot dead in a store on the outskirts of Lahore by unknown gunmen this week. The official said that there was no protest at that time and they were investigating whether the murder was inspired by political sentiment or any other reason.

In Lahore, police said they were increasing security in 27 KFC outlets around the city after two attacks and five others were stopped.

Faisal Kamran, a senior police officer from Lahore, said, “We are investigating the role of various individuals and groups in these attacks.” He said the protests were not officially organized by TLP.

TLP spokesman Rehan Mohsin Khan said the group has “urged Muslims to boycott the products, but has not given any calls to protest outside KFCs”.

“If any other person claims to be a TLP leader or worker, it is involved in such activity, it should be taken as his personal work, which has nothing to do with the party policy,” Khan said.

KFC has long been seen as a symbol of the United States in Pakistan and has shocked the anti -American spirit with protests and attacks in recent decades.

Western brands have been killed in the recent months of Israeli military aggressive in Gaza Strip in protest against boycott and other forms in Pakistan and other Muslim-Bahumat countries.

According to Israeli’s tall, the Palestinian group Hamas launched a war in the war on October 7, 2023, in which Southern Israel was attacked, killing 1,200 people and 251 was taken hostage in Gaza.

Since then, according to local health officials, more than 51,000 Palestinians have died in the aggressive Israeli.

Yama Brands has stated that one of its other brands, Pizza Hut, has faced an impressive impact from the boycott of Israeli war in Gaza.

In Pakistan, local brands have entered their fast growing Cola market as some consumers avoid American brands. In 2023, Coca-Cola’s market share in the consumer sector in Pakistan increased from 6.3% to 5.7% in 2022, according to Globaldata, while PepsiCo fell from 10.8% to 10.4%.

Earlier this month, religious clerics in Pakistan asked for a boycott of any product or brand, which they say they support Israel or American economy, but asked people to be peaceful and not destroy the property.
