At the end of the counting phase the total number of voters in the Union Territory has come down to 9.18 lakh, from 10.21 lakh as of October 27. Officials said more than 80,000 voters have been permanently shifted or were found absent, while the names of 20,798 voters have been deleted after they were found dead.
Clarifying the process, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Puducherry told Hindustan Times that no name can be removed from the draft roll published on December 16 without prior notice and a verbal order from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or the Assistant ERO. Aggrieved voters can appeal to the District Magistrate and then to the Chief Electoral Officer under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
“The Commission reiterates its strong commitment to a transparent, participatory and inclusive vetting process, ensuring that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible name remains in the voter list,” the CEO told HT.
According to the CEO office, 1,03,467 enumeration forms out of 10,21,578 distributed could not be collected due to reasons such as death, migration, duplication or non-submission. Ozhukarai assembly constituency recorded the highest number of non-collectible forms at 6,139, while Bahaur recorded the lowest at 1,651.
The CEO said 80,645 voters were found shifted or absent during the verification process. Eligible voters whose names are missing can still apply to join during the claim and objections period from December 16 to January 15, 2026. The final voter list will be published on February 14.
The verification process found 2,024 voters enrolled at multiple locations. “The names of voters found enrolled at more than one location will be kept at one location only,” the CEO said.
