Bengaluru, Oct 21 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appreciated that unconstitutional and unethical moral policing, which was a hindrance to the dignity, development and progress of the state, has now been curbed. He said that the credit for this achievement goes to the police department.

He was speaking after paying tribute to martyred police officers and personnel on the occasion of Police Remembrance Day on Tuesday.

He stressed that the development of the state is possible only when the police department maintains peace and law and order. Therefore, curbing the unethical functioning of the police is a commendable step.

Similarly, the drug menace has also been significantly controlled and this effort needs to be carried out more effectively. CM Siddaramaiah said that he reiterated that the credit for these achievements goes to the police department.

To prevent atrocities against Scheduled Caste people, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) police stations have been made operational in the state. These should function effectively to protect constitutional rights and values, CM Siddaramaiah said.

In the last year, eight personnel from the state and a total of 191 personnel across the country have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. His sacrifice and dedication is priceless. He said that it is the responsibility of every citizen to remember and respect them.

He further said that police personnel play a leading role in maintaining peace and order of the country. He said that their role is important in suppressing communal and anti-social forces.

He said the health checkup cost for all police personnel has been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500.
