Several opposition MPs on Tuesday presented notices to transfer the postponement movements in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to discuss the issue of special intensive amendment (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Manikam Tagore gave a notice to transfer a postponement motion to discuss a special intensive amendment (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar and a postponement motion to discuss “threat to democratic rights”.
In the Rajya Sabha, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh gave notice of the proposal to discuss the “constitutional and electoral implications” of the Special Intensive Amendment (SIR) of the election role in Bihar.
The notice reads, “I would like to draw the attention of this House on a very serious and sensitive issue, which is currently being organized by the Election Commission of India in the state of Bihar. From the upcoming assembly elections in the year 2025.”
“Therefore, I politely request that you postpone all the proceedings of the House under Rule 267 and discuss this very important issue to preserve the right to vote for the citizens,” it further reads.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh has suspended the business notice under Rule 267 to discuss the concerns arising out of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Amendment (SIR) exercise before the election.
It is written in the notice, “This house suspends zero hours and relevant rules, which is related to day question hours and other businesses to discuss the concerns arising out of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Amendment (SIR) exercise ahead of elections, followed by plans to conduct similar practice before elections, where Wests are involved in high levels, where high levels are included. In a notice given to the General Secretary of Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Syed Naseer Husian requested zero hours and question hours suspension to discuss concerns about special intensive amendment exercises of the Election Commission in Bihar.
The Congress MP mentions in the notice, “These exercises raise serious concerns about the exclusion of uncertain communities already from the electoral rolls, especially in the absence of sufficient safety measures, transparency, and the absence of a procedure in their implementation,” the Congress MP mentions the notice.
Congress MP Ranjit Ranjan has also given a notice of proposal to discuss the concerns arising out of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Amendment (SIR) exercise in Bihar and the concerns arising out of its proposed detail for states like West Bengal.
Ranjan said in the notice, “These exercises create serious concerns about the possible disintegration of the weaker sections of the society, which are likely to face important challenges in compliance with the Election Commission’s instructions within a limited time limit.”
Congress MP Neeraj Dangi has given notice of proposal to discuss “concerns arising out of special intensive amendment of the electoral role in Bihar”.
According to an official statement by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Bihar became the first state in the country with all polling stations (PS) with less than 1,200 voters on Monday.
According to ECI, a total of 96.23 percent of the voters were covered in Bihar head. 5.56 percent of the voters were not yet found at his address. (AI)
