Mongolian Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar has resigned after losing a no-confidence vote in parliament, just four months after taking office, according to reports.
Voting took place on the no-confidence motion mongoliaOf the 111 members of the 127-seat parliament who voted on Friday, 71 supported Mr Zandanshater’s dismissal and 40 opposed it.
It is the second dismissal of two prime ministers in as many months amid ongoing political turmoil in the Central Asian nation due to public anger over corruption and a weak domestic economy. The instability has created uncertainty over policy continuity and weakened investor sentiment for the resource-rich country.
Mr. Zandanshater, 55, was confirmed as the country’s 32nd prime minister in June after his predecessor Lovsesnamsaray Oyun-Erdene resigned after losing support in parliament amid street protests over corruption allegations.
The vote on Friday came after more than 50 members of the legislature submitted a motion on October 10 to dismiss Mr. Zandanshatar from his post.
He cited constitutional violations in the Prime Minister’s recent appointment of a new Minister of Justice and Home Affairs.
