New Delhi:
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today registered a case of money laundering against Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, who played a key role in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali controversy.
Raids are going on at Sheikh Shahjahan’s house and six other places.
The women of Sandeshkhali have accused Sheikh Shahjahan of allegedly indulging in forceful land-grabbing activities and sexual harassment.
Shahjahan has been evading law enforcement ever since a mob allegedly linked to him attacked ED officials on January 5 during a search operation related to the ration scam. This incident not only increased tensions but also raised concerns about the influence and power exercised by Shah Jahan. his supporters in the area
The situation led the state police to take strong action, resulting in the arrest of Shahjahan’s associates Shibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar. However, Shahjahan remains missing. With 17 arrests so far, the police are urging villagers to come forward with their complaints, organizing camps in the area to address concerns related to land grabbing and extortion.
The BJP has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress of protecting its strong leader.
