Mohsin Ali Kanda has traveled a long way, from crying a Shikara in Dal Lake to making his way for national glory. Mohsin was proud of Jammu and Kashmir, winning the first gold medal of the game 2025 on Thursday.
Seventeen -year -old Mohsin won gold at a 1000 -meter male kayaking event, clocking 4: 12: 717s. It was a career highlight for the young man.
As Mohsin stepped out of Dal Lake, he was congratulated by a jabilant home mob, even he failed to withdraw happiness and hugged his coach Billuchis Mir, a former international and an Olympic judge.
This was a huge moment for Mohsin, the 12th standard student of SP Higher Secondary School, who, to fulfill his dream of representing India in international programs, does a rows of a shikara on Dal Lake after attending their school to buy their diet.
After earning gold, a lower-middle class carpenter’s son, Mohsin, Fida Hussain Kand said that he had worked hard for this and credited his father for his success.
“It was my father who played an important role for me in taking water playing. Lucky Mohsin said that despite economic difficulties and taking care of a five -member family, his father ensured that he developed deep interest in water game from a very young age,” Mohsin quoted SAI media.
“Water game is my passion and I dream of representing India internationally. To see my dreams, I move a shikara and share my family’s burden and buy the necessary diets that I need to train,” Mohsin said.
A resident of Kand Mohalla inside Dal Lake, who started his water sports journey at the age of seven, said, “Apart from his father, he will also credits the Jammu and Kashmir Kayaking and Canoeing Association.”
“They are also important in my success because the association provided me with necessary training and infrastructure,” he said.
Mohsin’s achievement is notable, given that, despite not participating in many national programs, he emerged victorious over other athletes with more experience and international risk.
“It is very difficult for me to buy a diet required to participate in such events because professional water sports athletes are considered a protein-rich, carbohydrate-rich, electrolyte-rich diet, which I am not able to tolerate due to little means,” Mohsin said.
However, Mohsin did not allow it to come into his way of success and was able to overcome all obstacles, with his strong determination.
He said, “The thing that really continues me is the irritation of representing the country in international programs such as the Asian Games, World Championships and Olympics,” he said.
Mohsin believes that practicing on the water of dal lake in high altitude Kashmir helps to develop better stamina, which is a lack of other athletes across the country.
He said, “Most of them come from the plains. So I feel a strong feeling that if I work hard to me, it is not yet when I will represent the country in international programs,” he said.
After returning from school every day, weeping Shikara, made her humble, the Gold Medal in Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025 can become a very important inspiration in 2025 that needs her career. (AI)
