Jaipur, October 22 (IANS) Ajit Chaudhary, a 21-year-old youth from Alwar, has gone missing in Russia, where he was pursuing his MBBS degree at Buxar State University in Ufa.
His family had sold three bighas of land for his education.
On 20 October, Russian police recovered his jacket and mobile phone from a river bank in Ufa. Four hours later, his shoes were also found nearby.
According to reports, Ajit, a resident of Kafanwada village of Laxmangarh, is missing since 11 pm on October 19.
His roommate told the police that Ajit had gone to get milk from the warden but did not return.
Due to language barriers, most communication between the family and local authorities has been through Ajit’s roommate.
Ajit’s uncle Bhoom Singh said, “On October 20, the family received a call from the Russian police. We were initially confused, but later, Ajit’s roommate spoke to the warden and told us about the incident. Now, the warden is also not responding properly. We tried contacting the college administration, but did not get any response. We don’t know what happened to Ajit.”
The family suspects something is wrong.
The uncle said, “After talking to the warden, it seems that he is trying to hint that Ajit jumped into the river, but no one is confirming this.”
Just an hour before his disappearance, Ajit had spoken to his mother Santra Devi and sister Geeta via video call around 10 pm on October 19 and wished them a happy Diwali.
The family said he was scheduled to return to India next month.
The family is devastated by Ajit’s disappearance. His father Roop Singh and other relatives are inconsolable.
His family members said Russian police are continuing their search, but no concrete leads have emerged so far.
After the incident, the family has written a letter to Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav requesting help.
The letter said, “Our son Ajit Singh is missing in Russia since October 19. We suspect something is wrong. Please help us find him soon.”
Ajit was hopeful of a better future for the family. His elder brother is preparing for competitive exams, while Ajit was sent to Russia to study medicine after the family sold 3 of their 20 bighas of land to meet his expenses.
