The disappearance of Irma Galactica in 2024 did not receive much attention. There were no police media briefings or wall-to-wall coverage of his last known movements, no publicized search and no appeals to the police for help locating persons of interest in his case.
However, the 32-year-old mother from Toronto had left several clues for police in the lead up to her disappearance.
As CityNews reported, Galastica’s last known location was at a home in rural Burlington after spending a night in Hamilton.
An unreleased video found on Galastica’s Snapchat account showed a quick overview of a room in the house, establishing that there were three people there and confirming that she was inside the house.
She was with a woman, whom CityNews has identified but whom we are calling “Jane” to protect the police investigation, and a man. “Jane” declined to speak to CityNews.
Galastica’s friend Shemika Duncan had the passwords to several accounts. He shared with CityNews what was going through his mind when he found this video.
“She was trying to warn us about this guy because she suspected something was going to happen. She definitely felt something was going to happen,” Duncan said.
The time stamp on the video is 31 August 2024 at 1:56 pm.
Duncan shared, “One thing I know about Irma is she’s very brave. She’s not afraid. She’ll usually protect me, any of her loved ones, anyone, even a stranger on the street, she’ll protect me.”
“So, for him to have that video and to have access to it … it just says that something definitely went wrong that afternoon.”
Their fears were confirmed when the family discovered that an aborted call to 911 had been made from Galastica’s phone.
“She did call 911, but not for long. And you know normally when you call the police, 911, they always call back. They called back. There was no line available, but they received the call. So that’s alarming… This was information shared by investigators,” said Galastica’s cousin, Ana Sotelo.
One of the details captured in her secret video was a unique whiteboard with writings and drawings on it.
CityNews searched for land ownership and located the house Old York Road was sold in May 2025. While checking the real estate listing, photos were found that matched the whiteboard in the video to the whiteboard in the listing of the house, with similar pictures, suggesting that Galastica was in this house for at least part of the day, in the afternoon the day before she disappeared.
Around the same time that the video was taken, Galastica sent her friend a very cryptic message that read, “Hey, I’m in Hamilton if I don’t come back.”
She was not in Hamilton at the time; She was in Burlington. But, about two hours later, Galastica, or at least her phone, was in rural Hamilton.
Then a PIN was sent to the same friend of the location. This was the last communication received from Galastica or her phone.
The phone’s location was now being shared, but over the course of several days, it never left the corner of Miles Road and Dickenson, about a 30-minute drive from the home on Old York Road in Burlington.
Armed with what Duncan found through Galastica’s Snapchat, police arrived at the home in September 2024.
Houlton officers camped out in the massive home for several days, which also housed the RCMP and fire marshal’s office. They had discovered a large drug laboratory on the property.
However, no arrests were ever made, no sign of Galastica was found and the home’s registered owner, Eric J. No sign of Carpenter found.
Police have identified Carpenter as a person of interest in Galastica’s disappearance, but have not named him a suspect.
When asked if she believed Galastica was murdered, her cousin, Maria Sotelo, said she felt that way from the beginning.
“I feel like a family [member]Like your gut just tells you something and once you’ve been searching for someone so much and there’s no sign of them, it’s like, what else could have happened?
The search for Galastica has now become a search for Carpenter as well.
