A family picnic turned into a devastating tragedy on Sunday evening after four persons drowning in the Jhelum River near the NHPC canal in the Gantamulla area of Boniyar in Baramulla district of North Kashmir.
According to the SDRF officer, the family in Srinagar was enjoying a picnic when two children accidentally slipped into the fast flowing water. In a frustrated attempt to save them, two more family members jumped into the river, but also swept away.
A local resident quickly intervened and managed to save a person. Despite the brave efforts, a minor was found dead, while two others are missing. The rescue operations are headed by SDRF Baramulla, Civil Defent Uri, Police Station Bonyar, and locals are currently running to detect missing persons.

Son Okovaka Shah, resident of hell, Budgam.
Age: A 13 -year -old body was recovered from Power Canal in Bonir.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, which highlights security measures and immediate need for public awareness around water bodies, especially during the monsoon season when the currents of the river are particularly stronger.
Officials have assured that all efforts are being made to locate the missing persons and provide assistance to the bereaved families.
