He said: “Car making is one of the crown jewels of British industry, and British classics like the Range Rover and Jaguar are iconic around the world.

“But exorbitant energy costs mean we risk losing out to competition from abroad.

“The Government has provided welcome support to the industrial strategy, but it must move faster to reduce energy bills for British businesses.

“Now is the time for the Government to put its foot on the accelerator and take action to protect jobs and manufacturing in the UK.”
