Hyderabad: Election officials have rejected permission for Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s padyatra to be held in Jubilee Hills assembly constituency on Thursday evening.
The Union Minister became angry with the returning officer’s order and announced that he would continue the election campaign.
The returning officer called off a padayatra planned in Borabanda area as part of the BJP’s campaign for the by-elections to be held on November 11.
The returning officer said in his order that a representative of the BJP had requested to conduct a padyatra from 4 pm to 10 pm in Borabanda mandal.
“As Assistant Commissioner of Police, Panjagutta submitted a report stating that the permission cannot be considered as another program has already been given to some other party. Therefore, the permission is refused,” the order said.
His action drew a sharp reaction from BJP leaders, who threatened to continue the march.
Bandi Sanjay said that he will reach Borabanda in the evening and is ready to overcome any obstacle.
“Is this democracy or Razakar rule? Is this Telangana rule or control from Darussalam? Has the police been handed over to AIMIM?” Bandi Sanjay posted on ‘X’.
He said, “Permission was first given for BJP’s Jubilee Hills campaign in Borabanda and then suddenly rejected today at 1 pm – what are they so afraid of? People’s voice or the rise of BJP? Despite permission, I am coming to Borabanda. Let them try to stop me.”
The state minister said, “BJP has fought big battles and has never surrendered. To every BJP worker – reach Borabanda with full force this evening.” He said that with the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he will show what fearless politics really means.
BJP election in-charge Dharma Rao wanted to know why the police withdrew the permission. He urged party workers to gather in large numbers at Borabanda for the meeting.
Dharma Rao said that it was the responsibility of the police to allow the public meeting of Bandi Sanjay without any restrictions.
The BJP leader said the Election Commission should work in an “impartial” manner.
