Migrant found with stab wounds on boat crossing English Channel

A migrant has been taken to hospital after being found with stab wounds on a boat crossing the English Channel.

The boat was reportedly one of eight carrying around 400 migrants intercepted by Border Force officials on Wednesday.

The man’s injuries were fully understood by authorities after he was brought to the shore in Dover Port.

About 60 other migrants on his boat were also screened. No arrests have been made so far.

It was one of the busiest days for transit so far this year, with photos showing large numbers of people being brought ashore by Dover officials.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Kent Police were called to reports that a man had been stabbed after a small boat arrived at Dover West Pier at 12.52pm on Wednesday 20 March.

“The man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and police are investigating the full circumstances, including where, when and how he was injured.”

Some 3,529 migrants have arrived in the UK from France so far this year, according to the latest provisional Home Office figures.

Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda deportation plans were also hit by further delays this week, as defiant peers persisted in a fresh defeat for the controversial policy.

The House of Lords voted 271 to 228 (a majority of 43) to require the legislation to take “due regard” to domestic and international law.
