MHA appoints a top legal team to lead the NIA case against Tavavur Rana

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan and advocate Narendra Mann as the Chief Prosecutor in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) case against Tavavur Rana.

According to the official notification issued by the government, “In the practice of powers provided by sub-stream (1) of Section 15 of Section 15 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), read with Section 18 (8) of Section 18 of the Indian Citizen Security Code (8) of India, SV Raju, along with SV Raju, Additional Solicitor General, Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan, and Advocate Dian Krishnan, and Advocate Nar-Nar-Ranger Notified as

“This team will oversee the trial and all related action related to the NIA Special Courts in Delhi, the High Court of Delhi and the Supreme Court of India.”

“His tenure will extend from the publication date of this notification or till the completion of the test, whichever previously occurs, under the terms and conditions mentioned in the department of legal matters.”

Earlier on 9 May, Tahwur Rana, a major conspirator in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was presented before the Patiala House Court from Nia Remand, one day before the scheduled date due to security concerns. The NIA Special Court has ordered its judicial custody by June 6, 2025.

Rana, a 64 -year -old Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, was extradited from the United States earlier this month in connection with his alleged role in the 2008 terror strike on Mumbai. (AI)
