Srinagar, July 15: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the increasing allegations of bias in the release of physical cost payment under the MGNREGA scheme, stating that such practices were pushing the rural economy of Jammu and Kashmir in deep uncertainty and already abandoning the distressed rural population.
In a statement issued here, PDP leader Ajaj Ahmed Mir said that despite the official claims of streamlining rural employment schemes in Jammu and Kashmir, the ground reality tells a different story. “Contractors’s bills are pending for months, dust collecting, and no new work is being started because contractors have lost interest. It is a serious issue and should pay immediate attention to them.
Highlighting a specific case at MIR’s Shopian Imam Sahib, MIR said that contractors are protesting against discriminatory practices in the disbursement of material cost payment under MGNREGA works.
“I urge the administration to ensure that the payment is strictly issued according to the online approved lists, leaving no one behind. It is necessary that the disbursement is fully to maintain transparency, maintain public belief and give justice to all the relatives involved.”
