A yellow weather warning has been issued throughout London, southeast and southwest of the country.
The Met Office has issued a warning of yellow thunderstorms from 10 am to 9 pm on Thursday, warning that there will be disruption in heavy rains.
The forecaster said that thunder and heavy rainfall are expected to develop during Thursday morning and afternoon.
In some areas “torrential downpores” will appear, the Met Office said, within an hour with 25–35 mm of rain and potentially 60 mm within two hours. Frequent lightening and hail will bring additional threats, warning it.
“In the afternoon before the storm dies during the evening, the warnings will be more limited to the south and east of the area,” it said.
The warning covers major counties and cities such as London, Safok, Brighton, Kent, Oxfordshire, Bristol, Partsmouth and Southampton.
People living in risky areas of flash flooding are advised to “consider the flood plan and an emergency flood kit”. To reduce potential damage, the meteorological office advised.
Strong winds can also pose a threat, and the inhabitants have been asked to secure moving objects and temporary structures, including coaches, trumloine, tents and garden furniture, which before the enthusiastic situation occurs.
