Met office forecast rain at Durga Puja Festival in Bengal

Kolkata, 22 September (IANS) reaches Durga Puja, the possibility of rain during the festival is increasing day by day, the Met Office warned on Monday.

The Regional Meteorological Center in Alipore, Kolkata had already informed that there is a possibility of formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal two days before Durga Puja (25 September). Due to this, there is more likely to rain during the Durga Puja days starting from 27 September.

On Monday, the Met Office said that there is a possibility of some sea from Wednesday and issued a warning for fishermen. They have been advised not to enter the deep sea.

According to the Met Department, four districts of South Bengal are expected to receive heavy rains in the next few days. South 24 Parganas, East Midnapur, West Midnapur and Jhargram districts are expected to receive heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday. In addition, all the remaining districts of South Bengal including Kolkata will experience scattered rains from Monday to next Thursday. There may be thunderstorms at various places including Kolkata.

“The possibility of rain increases as a festival approach. Meanwhile, the lights scattered in the run-up for the festival will continue in all the districts of South Bengal.”

However, the intensity of rain in North Bengal will be reduced from Tuesday.

There may be light rain at one or two places. However, there is no warning of heavy rains in any of the eight districts of North Bengal. At the end of this week, the weather will slowly improve.

Meanwhile, the northern Gulf of Bengal from West Bengal and Odisha may experience a stormy season from Thursday.

On Monday, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was 27.1 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in the city on Sunday was 33.2 degrees Celsius, above 0.4 degrees than normal.
