Guwahati, Nov 2 (IANS) In a concerted effort to protect vulnerable travelers and combat human trafficking, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) achieved a commendable success by rescuing 10 minors last week.
NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that between October 25 and 30, RPF personnel rescued 10 minors (07 boys and 03 girls) from different stations under NFR jurisdiction.
He said that all the rescued children have been safely handed over to Child Line officials, NGOs, concerned parents and local police for further necessary action and rehabilitation.
On 25 October, RPF teams from Dimapur (Nagaland) and Chaparmukh (Assam) carried out major rescue operations. During these operations, a total of three runaway minors (two boys and one girl) were successfully rescued.
All the rescued children were later handed over to designated Childline officers for safe custody and further care.
From October 27 to October 30, RPF teams from Agartala, Dimapur, Kishanganj and Alipurduar Junction conducted major rescue operations.
During these operations, three minor boys were rescued from Dimapur, two from Alipurduar Junction and one minor girl each from Agartala and Kishanganj stations.
All the rescued children were later handed over to designated Childline officers for safe custody and further care.
The CPRO said that under the “Meri Saheli” initiative, which focuses on ensuring the safety and well-being of women passengers, especially those traveling alone, the dedicated women squads of RPF remain continuously active and alert.
Her continuous efforts have significantly contributed to creating a safe travel environment for women travelers across the NFR.
Sharma said that the RPF of Northeast Frontier Railway continues its commitment towards passenger safety with special emphasis on safety of women and children through timely intervention, intensive patrolling and various passenger-friendly measures.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) operates in the northeastern states and seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar.
