Srinagar, Nov 16 (IANS) Former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday cautioned authorities against ‘tyranny’ while probing the white-collar terror module, citing the example of a father who tried to commit suicide after his two sons were picked up by the police in Kulgam district.
Posting on X, Mufti said, “A distressed father Bilal Wani from Wanpora Qazigund has set himself on fire after his son Jasir Bilal and brother Naveel Wani were detained by the police a few days ago. Fearful about their safety, he pleaded with the authorities to see them, which was rejected. They have been referred to SMHS Srinagar and their condition is critical. Such excesses only deepen the wounds.” And creates frustration. We run the risk of driving when youth are picked up haphazardly.” An entire generation is moving towards fear, desperation and ultimately dark paths.”
He further wrote, “JmuKmrPolice are requested to at least be allowed to meet the detained members.”
Mufti also posted a picture of a man showing burn marks while being treated at a hospital in Srinagar.
Police have picked up several people for questioning after the November 10 terror blast at the Red Fort, in which 12 people were killed when an i20 car exploded near a traffic crossing, killing its driver Dr Umar Nabi.
He had escaped arrest after Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police arrested his terrorist associate Dr. Muzammil Ganai from Faridabad. During the raid, around 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate, trigger device and other evidence were recovered from the rented place of Dr. Muzammil Ganai.
Earlier, police had arrested Dr Adil Rather from Qazigund area of Kulgam district after they recovered an AK-47 rifle from his locker at the Government Medical College, Anantnag.
Dr. Adil left his job from this medical college in October 2024, after which he joined Al-Falah University, Faridabad.
It is believed that Adil’s brother Dr. Muzaffar Ali Rather is also a part of the Faridabad terrorist module. He fled to Dubai in August 2025.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has approached Interpol for a Red Corner Notice against Dr. Muzaffar Ali.
The police have also arrested Shaheen Shahid, a female doctor from Lucknow working at Al-Falah University. An assault rifle was recovered from his car. Police allege that he is also involved in the white-collar terrorist module busted in Faridabad.
It must be mentioned that Bilal Wani, who tried to commit suicide after his two sons were picked up by the police, is also from the Qazigund area, which is the native place of Dr Adil Rather and his brother Dr Muzaffar Ali.
