Mehbooba Mufti revives sports relations between India and Pakistan

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehboba Mufti has supported to resume sports relations between India and Pakistan, calling it a “best thing” to normalize the situation between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday on the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Pakistan, Mhuboba Mufti said, “There should be sports events (between India and Pakistan). If you want to live peacefully and do not want to spend money on war, you want to overcome waste and poverty, and want to normalize the game.”

The men’s Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 9 to 28 September.

India will launch its campaign against UAE on 10 September. The high-octane conflict against Pakistan is scheduled for September 14, followed by his final group-step game against Oman on 19 September. Tournament openers will facilitate Afghanistan vs Hong Kong on 9 September.

In particular, several political leaders have protested against India and Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025 after Pahalgam Terror Attack and Operation Sindoor.

On Monday, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his concern over the upcoming cricket match between India and Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup and questioned the accountability for the Pahgam attack.

“Does your conscience allow you to ask family members of those killed in Baisran to watch India’s cricket match with Pakistan? … we are stopping 80% Pakistan’s water, saying that water and blood will not flow together. Will you play a cricket match?”

Raising a question directly from the government, he asked, “Does this government dare to call 25 dead people and said that we have changed in operation vermilion, now you watch matches with Pakistan?”

Following his remarks, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Mohsin Nockvi announced that the men’s Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates from 9 to 28 September.
