Mehboba Mufti Pahgam demands civil-militant distinction in Crackdown, warns against separation of Kashmiris

Srinagar, April 27, KDC: Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has taken X to issue an enthusiastic appeal for the Government of India, urging the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam to fully urge caution and accuracy. Emphasizing the important need to distinguish between terrorists and innocent citizens, Mufti asked for tasks that strengthen unity rather than intensive separation in the region.

In his statement on X, Mufti expressed deep concern for thousands of arrests and deep concern over the demolition of several houses in Kashmir, including militants along with common citizens. He warned that such widespread measures, if not cautious are not calibrated carefully, innocent Kashmiris are at risk of separating and reducing resentment, which can play in the hands of people wishing to sow fear and discord.

“Indiscriminate action against citizens weakens our fight against terrorism,” Mufti posted on X. “The government should ensure that innocent Kashmiris are not designed to bear the brunt of anti-terrorism operations. Separation only assists those who thrive on partitions.”

Mufti urged the government to direct security forces and officials who prioritize human rights security and dignity of citizens. He emphasized transparent investigation and importance of fair treatment to prevent incorrect targeting of innocent persons. “Justice and belief are the strongest weapons against terrorism,” he said.

The PDP leader called for immediate steps to prevent any punitive action against citizens and to join the local communities to reconstruct confidence in the government’s commitment to peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti’s appeal underlines the need for a balanced approach that increases security by promoting unity and hope among the Kashmiris. (KDC)
