Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (JKPDP) President Mehboboba Mufti visited Parvez Ahmed’s family on Thursday, who was killed in a staged police encounter for a 21 -year -old Gurjar youth of Nikki Tawi, Jammu, a 21 -year -old Gurjar of Jammu.
His journey is a scary of atrocities against the Gurjar-Bekarwal communities, whose strong loyalty to the state is with systemic violence and margins.
Despite expectations that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s elected government will bring relief and compassion, cruelty continues without stopping.
Talking to reporters in Jammu today, Mufti condemned Parvez Ahmed’s murder of cold blood, which dismissed the police claim as a baseless excuse for unnatural assassination to his claim of his participation in drug pedaling. He said, “Mohammad Parvez was killed in a fake encounter to protect him. It is a state-provided terror that targets the Gurjar-Bakerwal communities. I demand a judicial inquiry from time to time to highlight the culprits and ensure justice,” he said.
Mufti assured JKPDP’s unwavering support family, warning that such killings deepen separation and destroy confidence in democratic institutions.
Parvez Ahmed’s murder is part of a cool pattern of violence, in which more than a dozen Gurjar-Bakerwal died under suspicious circumstances in 2024–25. In February 2025, Makhan Deen, a 25 -year -old Gurjar from Kathua Bhilawar, died, died of suicide after recording a video, alleged that alleged Pakistani contacts were accused of torture by security forces. In March 2025, three Gurjars Yuva -Shokat Ahmed Bhajad, Riyaz Ahmed Bhajad, and Mukhtar Ahmad Avan -Kulgam, who went missing on their way for a wedding, were found dead in the Veshava river, alleging families claiming claims of families. In April 2025, Altaf Hussain Lali, a Gujjar from Bandipora, branded the “Overground Worker” of the terrorists (OGW), who was killed in a staged encounter in his family claims. On May 4, 2025, Imtiaz Ahmed Magre, a 23 -year -old from Tangamarg, Kulgam, allegedly jumped into an army custody, jumped into the Vishav Nallah stream in Arabal Watu area of Kulgam, resulting in death as a result.
Local and Mufti accused of foul play, claiming that they were detained day earlier. Additionally, Manzoor Ahmed Tedwa from Marhawa, Kishtwar has been missing from his grasslands for two months, the police have failed to find him. Mudsir Ahmed Dhakad, a tribal student of Devsar, Kulgam, has been requesting justice with his family since 22 June 2025. Kathua and Samba police have detained thousands of community members, issued after investigation in which no crime was found, further dismissed disbelief.
The nomadic Gurjar-Bekarwal communities have to face tireless harassment during their seasonal cattle migration. 2025 document reports drug pedaling and smuggling of cattle, obstruction of migration routes and forced expulsion, such as report of arbitrary allegations for 2020 demolition of Bakerwal Dhokes in Pahgam.
The 2018 Kathua rape-killing of an 8-year-old Bakerwal girl, where communal support for the accused enhances the trauma of the community, remains a painful mark.
Despite the expectation that the elected government will address these injustice, Gurjar-Bekarwal communities have no end to cruelty. “People pinned their hopes on an elected government for relief, but the cycle of violence continues against our nomadic tribes. The Gurjar-Bakerwal community, which was standing through his dark times by Jammu and Kashmir, is considered as their loyalty. It is a betrayal of their loyalty.”
