Meerut Medical College junior doctor attacked, emergency services shut down, doctors on strike

A junior doctor was assaulted by a family member of a patient at Larajpat Rai Medical College in Meerathura, Uttar Pradesh. After this incident, all doctors went on strike collectively and stopped emergency services by sitting at the door of the department. The doctors demanded the arrest of the attackers as a condition of ending the strike. The police have registered a case against the two and started investigating the matter.

Dr RC Gupta, principal of Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College, said that on Monday night, someone brought a woman who was in critical condition. Emergency room doctors examined the woman and pronounced her dead. Afterwards, the attendants began to stir, accusing the woman of negligent treatment. Manish, a junior doctor, was attacked.

He hit him several times in the head with the wrench that opened the oxygen tank. A case has been registered against unknown persons at the Medical Police Station in connection with the incident. Before the defendants were arrested, the striking doctors were not ready to return to work. We are trying to convince them. The protest continued under the leadership of Dr Sakshi, president of the Youth and Residents Association.

Medical post SHO Shailesh Kumar said a case has been registered against the two. Efforts are ongoing to arrest him. Paramedics arrived with a female patient from an area hospital between 9pm and 10pm on Monday night. But after an investigation, doctors declared him dead. Afterwards, nursing staff began rioting, fighting and accusing negligent treatment.

Let me tell you, in 2019, an incident of molesting a female doctor occurred in the same medical school. Thereafter, junior residents staged a protest. Doctors have staged a protest against Dr Kapil, head of the ENT department, accusing him of molesting a resident doctor in the department. The police said that a case has been registered after the victim girl complained.
