Belgavi (Karnataka), 23 September (IANS) is an incident of a cow that is allegedly transporting cow meat to a truck, has come to light in Belgavi district of Karnataka. The incident took place in Annapura village near Kagavad city on Monday night and came to light on Tuesday.
Police have arrested three persons, who are in connection with alleged illegal transport of cow meat and have detained 10 others on charges of arson and robbery.
According to the police, the meat was being transported from Kudachi city to Hyderabad city in the Ribig Taluk.
Initial investigation suggests that local residents stopped the vehicle in Ainapura village, pulled out the driver, thrown him, and closed him before handing him over to the police.
Subsequently, cow alertness set the truck on fire, taking about seven quintals of meat. He alleged that although he had stopped the truck and reported the matter, the police failed to reach the spot on time. The villagers claimed that they called the police helpline at 9.30 pm, but the judicial Kagavad police arrived at only 11.30 pm.
Angered by the delay, cow vigilance tortured the truck along with meat. After preliminary investigation, the police detained 10 villagers on charges of arson, robbery and atrocities. Security has been tightened in Aainapura village.
The Kagawad police have also arrested three persons in connection with illegal meat transport. While working fast, the main accused in relation to the case has been arrested from Kalaburagi city. The accused have been booked under the prevention of cow slaughter and prevention of cruelty for the Animal Act.
The Kagavad police have further investigated.
Recently, Bantwal Rural Police booked three persons under the Karnataka control of the Organized Crime Act (KCOCA) after discovering their participation in two cases of cattle theft and slaughter.
Police identified three people as Irshad, 34, 34 -year -old from Kembugugul, Mohammad Mansoor, 48, 48 in Mangroral, 48 from Kudrroli, and 18 -year -old Abdul Azeem from Kanur in Mangaruru.
Police said that these three persons were arrested on 5 September for their alleged involvement in the theft and slaughter of cattle, which was reported at Bantwal Rural Police Station on 14 August. These accused were found accused in the case of theft and slaughter of cattle at the Apnangadi police station on 4 September.
Therefore, a case was registered against three persons under KCOCA, the police said in a press release.
Earlier, the Karnataka police arrested two persons for allegedly killing cows and dumping their bodies in a forest area in Bhatkal city of Karwar district, officials said last Thursday.
The pair known as Mohammad Saman (19) and Mohammad Raheen (20), based on a complaint filed by a forest officer, was identified as the residents of Bhatkal.
Accordingly, a crime was registered at Bhatkal Shah Police Station under the prevention of protection of Karnataka slaughter and cattle act, 2020.
