New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) Leaders of political parties on Monday extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of the third day of Chhath Puja and prayed that the festival brings new energy and happiness in everyone’s life.

This year, Chhath Puja is being celebrated from October 25 to October 28. The four-day festival includes ‘Nahay Khay’, ‘Kharna’, ‘Sandhya Arghya (evening offering to the setting sun)’, and ‘Usha Arghya (morning offering to the rising sun)’.

On Monday, people will celebrate the third day of Chhath Puja, known as Sandhya Arghya. The day is dedicated to preparing ‘Prasad’ at home, which often includes thekua, rice laddu sweets, khajuriya, tikri, kasar and fruits, all offered in small bamboo baskets.

In the evening, the entire family goes with the devotee to the river bank, pond or any other large body of water to offer Arghya to the setting sun.

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge while addressing the gathering, wishing the devotees, said, “Heartiest greetings to all on Chhath, the great festival of worship of Lord Surya, the source of energy and importance of nature and devotion, emphasizing the values of faith, dedication, belief and new creation.”

He said, “Our great civilization gives equal reverence and respect to both the setting and rising sun, which shows how deeply and widely nature is embedded in our Indian lifestyle.”

Kharge said, “May this sacred occasion infuse new energy, enthusiasm and immense joy into everyone’s life.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also greeted the people and said, “Sandhya Arghya is the main day of Chhath Puja, which conveys the message of devotion, faith and a deep connection with nature.”
