New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) Leaders of political parties on Monday extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of the third day of Chhath Puja and prayed that the festival brings new energy and happiness in everyone’s life.

This year, Chhath Puja is being celebrated from October 25 to October 28. The four-day festival includes ‘Nahay Khay’, ‘Kharna’, ‘Sandhya Arghya (evening offering to the setting sun)’, and ‘Usha Arghya (morning offering to the rising sun)’.

On Monday, people will celebrate the third day of Chhath Puja, known as Sandhya Arghya. The day is dedicated to preparing ‘Prasad’ at home, which often includes thekua, rice laddu sweets, khajuriya, tikri, kasar and fruits, all offered in small bamboo baskets.

In the evening, the entire family goes with the devotee to the river bank, pond or any other large body of water to offer Arghya to the setting sun.

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge while addressing the gathering, wishing the devotees, said, “Heartiest greetings to all on Chhath, the great festival of worship of Lord Surya, the source of energy and importance of nature and devotion, emphasizing the values ​​of faith, dedication, belief and new creation.”

He said, “Our great civilization gives equal reverence and respect to both the setting and rising sun, which shows how deeply and widely nature is embedded in our Indian lifestyle.”

Kharge said, “May this sacred occasion infuse new energy, enthusiasm and immense joy into everyone’s life.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also greeted the people and said, “Sandhya Arghya is the main day of Chhath Puja, which conveys the message of devotion, faith and a deep connection with nature.”

He said, “Today devotees will gather at the ghats at sunset to offer Arghya to the setting sun. My heartiest wishes to all the devotees. May Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya make your life bright and prosperous.”

Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha also said on social media, “On the holy festival of folk faith, Chhath, Chhath Puja will be concluded by offering Arghya to the setting sun on the third day in the evening, while on the fourth day tomorrow morning, Chhath Puja will be completed. May Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya bless all the devotees with a happy and healthy long life. Best wishes to all.”

Congress’s Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also extended her warm wishes on this auspicious occasion.

In a post on Instagram, she said, “On this holy occasion, I bow to all the devotees observing the fast. May Chhathi Maiya bring happiness, peace and prosperity in everyone’s life.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal also said on social media, “Heartiest greetings to all of you on the great festival of folk faith, Chhath. Greetings to all fasting mothers and sisters on this holy festival of Sun worship and nature worship. May the blessings of Lord Suryadev and Chhathi Maiya bring happiness, peace, prosperity and health in the lives of all of you.”

During this auspicious festival, devotees observe strict fasts, stand in rivers or ponds to pray, and express gratitude to the Sun God for sustaining life on earth, a reflection of the faith, piety and reverence deeply rooted in Indian tradition.
