Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored on Saturday during his three -day visit to Sri Lanka’s highest civilian award – Mithra Vibhusha -. Sri Lankan President Anuraa Kumara Dsnayake gave a prestigious award to PM Modi in honor of his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and promote shared cultural and spiritual heritage of the two countries.
“I am happy to announce that the Sri Lankan government has decided to honor him (PM Narendra Modi) the most Sri Lanka-Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhusha.
While receiving the award, PM Modi said that this is a “case of pride” for him.
“Today, for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to be honored with the Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan Award – it is an honor not for me but for 140 crore Indians. It reflects the historical relationship and deep friendship between the people of Sri Lanka and India, and for this, I thank the government of the President, Sarkar, Lanka,” he said.

The ‘Mithra Vibhusha’ medal has been installed to recognize especially extraordinary global friendship and reflect the depth and heat of India-Sri Lanka relations. On this, the ‘Dharma Chakra’ represents a shared Buddhist heritage which has shaped the cultural traditions of the two countries.
