Masti 4, the fourth film in the popular comic series starring Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, was released in theaters on 21 November, earning an estimated ₹2.75 crore on the first day in India.
Industry tracker Saknilak recorded slightly less than 10% (about 9.98%) occupancy on the first day, with a marginal increase of 5.55% during the morning show, 9.06% during the afternoon show, 9.91% during the evening show and 15.4% during the night show. Major regional markets performed average, with the Delhi-NCR region recording 9.75% and Mumbai recording around 12.25%.
Masti 4 was released on approximately 2,857 screens, which is approximately equivalent to 120 Bahadur. Maximum 667 shows were held in Delhi-NCR, while 461 shows were held in Mumbai. With a release on around 2,857 screens, the film now relies mostly on word-of-mouth and weekend attendance to boost its numbers.
It performed slightly better than the co-released war drama ‘120 Bahadur’ (₹2.35 crore on Day 1), but still fell well short of expectations for a strongly branded comedy. Previous films in the franchise had gotten off to much better starts; For example, the 2013 release grossed approximately ₹12.5 crore.
According to analysts, the weak opening is a result of both poor advance bookings and a perceived decline in franchise brand memory. ‘Masti’ and ‘Grand Masti’ were successful, while ‘Great Grand Masti’ was a complete failure. However, according to The Times of India, the team behind the franchise hopes to “step into the ring” and intends to revive the brand and its distinctive ethos with this new installment.
Director Milap Milan Zaveri’s latest film Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, had a better opening of ₹9 crore. Additionally, the film’s opening numbers are low compared to other significant Riteish Deshmukh sequels, such as Raid 2 (₹19.25 crore) and Housefull 5 (₹24 crore).
About Masti 4
The trio—Amar, Prem and Meet—are looking forward to their old days as bachelors as they are stuck in a restrictive marriage and are dissatisfied with their routine existence. As a result, they seek guidance from their friends Maneka (Nargis Fakhri) and Kamaraj (Arshad Warsi), and they become thrilled with the idea of love visas.
Stage romance, secret vacations, and the possibility of uncontrolled revelry away from their wives are all part of their half-baked escape. What used to be considered “no rules”, sex outside marriage has become a complicated excuse for ridiculous conflicts and confusing conversations.
