Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 (IANS) Shankar Prusty, the alleged mastermind of the multi-crore Odisha police sub-inspector (SI) recruitment exam scam, who was arrested by the state crime branch from Uttarakhand, on Sunday pleaded innocent, saying a conspiracy was hatched against him.
The Crime Branch team brought Prasti back to Odisha on Sunday.
On reaching Bhubaneswar airport, the accused told media persons, “I will give all the information about the people who hatched the conspiracy. I was not hiding, I have approached the High Court for bail. All the allegations against me are false.”
He also denied having any connection with other accused persons in connection with the case.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, Odisha Police said that in a significant breakthrough, the crime branch has arrested Prasti, 32, a resident of Jagannathpur Junction under Chamkhandi police station in Ganjam district.
It also said that Prasti, director of Punchsoft Technologies Pvt Ltd, based in Patiya, Bhuneshwar, along with his other associates, Muna Mohanty, Shrikant Maharana alias Rinku, Arabinda Das Dora and Priyadarshini Salmal, carried out the SI recruitment exam scam.
Notably, after the police busted the scam in Andhra Pradesh on the night of September 29 with the arrest of 114 candidates and three middlemen, Prusty, who was living in Delhi at the time, soon went into hiding.
A team of Odisha Crime Branch arrested Prusty on Saturday near the Nepal border in Uttarakhand when he was trying to flee the country.
He was reportedly planning a trip to Dubai.
The crime branch had earlier issued a lookout circular for Shankar Prusty and his close associate Muna Mohanty in connection with the Odisha Police SI recruitment exam scam.
However, the police managed to arrest Mohanty and several others from Daspalla area of Nayagarh district last month.
On Sunday, Odisha Police also said that the Crime Branch team has seized objectionable documents, Fortuner car, expensive mobile phone and passport from Prasti’s possession.
