Marvin Gaye III’s Aussie wife alleges domestic abuse

An Australian woman who married the adopted son of late Motown legend Marvin Gaye has spoken for the first time, alleging she suffered years of domestic abuse.

Wendy Gaye said she feared for her life and tried to leave husband Marvin Gaye III “many times” over their nearly 20 year relationship.

The pair separated and divorce proceedings are underway after a violent incident at the couple’s Los Angeles County home in January.

“It was a very frightening situation and still is,” she told the Daily Telegraph.

Wendy, 54, originally from Perth, moved to the United States 28 years ago and married her estranged husband in 2010 when they had already been together for nearly six years.

She has shared her story in the hope of helping others in domestic violence situations.

“If I have to be the one to expose domestic violence so that I can help other victims, then this is what has fallen on me to do,” she said.

It’s alleged that Marvin Gaye III “attacked” Wendy on January 12 this year — and that he grabbed his wife by the neck, lifted her off the ground. His female cousin intervened and he allegedly threatened both of the women with a gun. He then drove off in his Corvette before police arrived — and later handed himself in. He was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanour domestic violence.

The couple separated that day, court documents reveal, TMZ reported.

Two months later, Marvin Gaye III filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences”.

Marvin Gaye III’s father Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr gained widespread fame for his R&B and soul hit songs. He was influential in the Motown period during the 1960s.
