Farrukhabad, October 18 (IANS) Markets in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad have been beautifully decorated for Dhanteras, drawing huge crowds at shops to make festive purchases ahead of Diwali.
Preparations continued till late Friday night in various markets including electronics, utensils and bullion.
Shops ranging from utensils shops to showrooms of two-wheelers and four-wheelers were glittering with lights and adorned with festive decorations. The electronics market was illuminated with colorful lights, adding to the excitement of Diwali.
The utensils market on Lohai Road remained busy till late night as customers bought a variety of products. Shopkeepers witnessed huge footfall and steady sales.
Ashok Kumar Bajpai, a utensils seller, said, “The market is fully decorated and we are expecting good business this time. There is a lot of demand for light utensils.”
The idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi are also in great demand. A specially decorated shop offering idols priced between Rs 100 and Rs 25,000 attracted a lot of attention.
“Due to the recent floods, expensive idols are not being sold that much this year,” said Bunty, a vendor who has been selling idols for 25 years.
Another shopkeeper said he was offering idols ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 15,000 and was hopeful of a good festive season.
Bike showrooms also saw strong demand, with many customers pre-booking vehicles for Dhanteras. Preparations continued till late night in various showrooms including TVS and Hero.
TVS showroom manager Hariom Sharma said, “Around 125 bikes were pre-booked for Dhanteras. The GST cut has also had a positive impact. We expect to sell around 250 vehicles.”
The agency owner has estimated the sales of TVS bikes in the district to be around Rs 2 crore.
Similarly, the manager of Hero Bike Agency estimates that around 150 bikes will be sold on Saturday.
“People are buying bikes in large numbers and the GST cut has helped in increasing sales,” he said.
“There is a huge demand for different types of utensils this year. I hope to earn Rs 1 lakh or more in a whole day,” said a utensil trader.
With vibrant decorations, increased customer base and high consumer demand, the markets of Farrukhabad are filled with festive energy as residents prepare to celebrate Dhanteras and Diwali with enthusiasm and joy.
