marc maron taking accountability for his long-standing feud with fellow comedian john stewartAdmitting that it was “petty” and “completely motivated” by her own “insecurities”.
talking with Sir For its latest “What I’ve Learned” video interview series, Maron, 62, explained that their rivalry dates back to when they were both coming up on the comedy scene in the 1990s.

Recalling that “during my early career, John, who was about my age, was everywhere,” Maron said that this made her jealous.
He said of the 62-year-old, “I would just pounce on him and his face. It was so painful. I couldn’t go a week without him being on the cover of a magazine.” daily show host. “For some reason, I looked at it as, ‘If I could only keep my girlfriends together, I could be like that guy.’ …Which wasn’t true, because I was out of my mind, and I was definitely looking for something else.”

He said that he did not get into comedy to become an entertainer or a talk show host, but to “hold space and speak my mind”.
He told that there are no rules for comedy. Maron said, “You can do whatever you want in there, as long as you’re funny.” “If you can make it fun, you can be who you are. So, I think I had a big belief that I would eventually become who I am. And I always was, but it wasn’t perfect until recently. So John really just represented that, and I was upset for him.”
When asked if he ever tried to get Stewart to WTF Podcast, Maron revealed that she had “in the beginning”.
He remembered calling Stewart and “apologizing” before bringing out his podcast. However, the Comedy Central star quickly told her, “There’s no love here.”

“And I’m like, ‘Okay,’ and then he basically said, ‘I might be willing to drink coffee or something, but I’m not doing that. [podcast] With you,” Maron said.
“And then he said, ‘I’m sure what you’re doing is very creative, and good luck with it.’ Just that stinging kindness… it didn’t help anything. And now he’s doing a podcast. So, full circle!”

Maron previously replaced Stewart as host of Comedy Central’s Clip Show in 1993. Short Attention Span Theatre. It was canceled shortly thereafter in 1994.
